The building sector or often referred to as the built environment has for a long term had several gaps attributed to deficiencies with the existing laws. On 19th February 2026, the President of the Republic of Uganda assented to a very significant legislation within the built environment, the Building Control (Amendment) Act 2026, which later came into force 19th March 2026. The legislation which amends the Building Control Act Cap. 136 enacted in 2013, introduces significant changes which are highlighted in this article. The article goes further to point out the missed opportunities that the amendment should have resolved but never did.
